Branch Meetings - 4th May - 1st June 2010. Dear Member The meetings took place at the Reform Club Middleton Road Chadderton Oldham. The meetings started 20.15 hrs members present. No apologies received. Apologises to all members for not sending out the newsletters over the last four months, my work at GMP must be my first priority. I hope this newsletter will be informative for you ALL to be able to book time off for future Fusilier events in 2010. The meeting held on the 4th May was our annual general meeting thanks to all who could make the meeting. I would like you all to know that a new committee was formed, a larger committee that will bring the branch much needed help in the work that we do. The Oldham Branch now has the Chairman and Vice Chairman of the Fusilier Association (Lancashire). Last Post. RRF Berlin reunion. Charity Walk Ten miles in memory of Corporal Joseph
'Joey' Etchells. It is now almost one year on and on the 24th July 2010 in memory of Joey, his family are holding a sponsored walk and charity auction in aid of the Fusiliers Aid Society (Charity No: 259229). The location will be at Dovestones Reservoir Saddleworth near Oldham - more details are on www.micklehurstcc.co.uk Minden Day members past and present reunion. Minden Day 1st August 2010, Battle of Minden 1759. Starting at 12:00 hrs there will be a Drumhead Service and Wreath Laying at the Gallipoli Garden Lutyens Memorial Silver Street Bury. This will take 30 minutes approximately. Bury Football Club have offered us free use of their club from 12:30 hrs, we all move down to Gigg Lane Bury FC to carry on our Minden Day celebrations. There are plenty of car parking spaces within the club. We hope to book the Association Band to play about 14:30 hrs outside the club weather permitting, inside if not. A Potato Hash and Curry Lunch at £3.50 per head. We need your support we must not let these celebrations die just because we have no club. Anyone wishing to purchase meals please send your £3.50 to the Oldham Branch secretary ASAP. Rochdale Branch Minden Celebrations. Saddleworth War Weekend. The Fusilier Gathering. Saturday 18th September. 1700hrs onwards Association
members arrive at The Royal Court Hotel Coventry. Please be aware that the Pope will be visiting Coventry on Sunday 19th September, accommodation will become difficult to arrange in the Coventry area, so I would encourage your membership to book their rooms if not already done so. From the Honorary Secretary Steve Fitt - The Association Chairman Capt John O'Grady (Retd) has requested that names and money be given to branch secretary's and then secretaries will give a cheque and a list of persons attending , either for the dinner or lunch, the list is requested by the 15th of July 2010. I will need names of those travelling by car. I have already 16 names for the coach (53 - seater). Battle of Britain The Oldham Branch Christmas Dinner Saturday 4th December

The Chadderton 1861 Memorial Day Parade
Sunday 6 April 2008 Chadderton Park Oldham
The above event was a joint operation between the Oldham liaison of ex service assoc & life for a life memorial forests, the day had two aims 1, to re-enact and celebrate the presentation of the queens and regimental colour to the 31st Lancashire rifle volunteers, by the ladies of Oldham on the same date and time 147 years Earlier 1861, 2, the life for a life team, to plant 2 trees one to commemorate the re-enactment-and the second tree, in recognition of the centrifugation made locally by ex patriot polish ex combatants,/serviceman, which fitted rather well with the fusiliers on parade [Monte casino} The parade was led, by 8 mounted police in ceremonials dress, with fully groomed horses Followed by the corps of drums & fifes of the fusilier assoc Lancashire, a contingent of regular & TA soldiers, the standards and ex service men and women of Oldham, a greater Manchester, police marching contingent, in best dress, the historical society in period dress Closely linked with the fusilier queen Andréa Wray {whose brother was killed in Northern Ireland- James duncan-3rrf} the band and choir of Henshaws school, this school also paraded back in 1861 Followed by detachments, of Hulme Grammer school CCF and Greater Manchester ACF, with the Oldham Scottish Pipe band bringing up the rear , the parade marched past with Norman k Stoller OBE a Deputy Lord Lieutenant of Greater Manchester, with the worship the mayor of Oldham councilor Anne Wingate JP, taking the salute ,also in attendance was the military attaché To the polish embassy London Col Krzysztof Szymanski, the total dignitaries present was 60 2x which were Capt. John O Grady and Jo Farquer, and Col Sir John Timmins KCVO,OBE, TD, LLD with his lady, once the march past was complete the parade formed hollow square, with the service, ceremony, and tree plantings , act of Remembrance, once over ,military static displays , and dancing came to the fore, with our own Corp of Drums providing an excellent victory beating, the original Colours having been restored, at a cost of 17k are on display At the Oldham Civic Centre, -Town Hall, A good day had by all .ref the photo of the Standards, Union Mick Fowlers, Area Sec Steve Fitt, LF, Les Berry,- Paul Heywood -Oldham, The Para is actually, Brian Armstead ex 5rrf, a member of two Associations, By Alan Noble |
